Jordan condemns Israeli attacks on Syria
AMMAN — Jordan on Thursday condemned the recent Israeli air strikes on several areas in Syria, describing them as a “flagrant violation of international law and an egregious breach of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
The attacks have resulted in casualties and injuries, which could escalate regional tensions and further destabilise the situation, a Foreign Ministry statement said.
Sufyan Qudah, the ministry's spokesperson, reiterated Jordan's rejection of Israel's repeated aggression against Syrian territory, in “violation of the 1974 disengagement agreement between Israel and Syria.”
The spokesperson also reiterated Jordan's “unwavering support for the security, stability and sovereignty of Syria.”
Qudah also urged the international community to exercise pressure on Israel to cease its “unlawful and provocative actions.”
He called for an end to the Israeli occupation of Syrian land and stressed the need for Israel to comply with international law and relevant UN resolutions, which require respect for national sovereignty and non-interference in the affairs of other states.
