AMMAN — The Senate’s joint “legal and economic” committee on Tuesday endorsed the 2019 customs draft law, as referred from the Lower House.

The meeting, which was chaired by President of the Legal Committee Senator Kamal Barham, was attended by President of the Finance and Economic Committee Senator Umayya Toukan, Justice Minister Bassam Talhouni and Finance Minister Ezzeddine Kanakrieh.

The bill is intended to expand the specialisation of the public prosecutor’s office and develop its performance, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The bill passed the precautionary seizing of goods and gave the public prosecutor’s office the right to shut down stores involved in customs evasion more than twice, Kanakrieh said.
